Antique long guns - Friedrich Jung & Söhne of Suhl Germany, Percussion double barrel shotgun, circa 1840, approximately 16 bore or .63 caliber, German silver trigger guard with fabulous open flowing scroll engraving with a deeply engraved forest scene at center in deep relief with stags and does, lock plate and hammer are fully engraved with the lock bearing the head of a boar set with gold pin eyes on both sides with spring-loaded safeties that pop out at first hammer position, both hammers are carved and deeply engraved to give the appearance of either dragons or griffins, engraved tang matches other engraving, European walnut stock with large cheek rest and fabulously carved details, patch box with carved lions head as well as additional inset German silver details including a motif with intertwined dolphins and a woodland scene with birds perched on tree branches at stock tip where the ramrod meets the stock, cupped German silver butt plate with additional fine hand engraving with image of a man and bow with a leashed dog, 29 inch octagonal barrel which tapers to a hexadecagonal tip and simple bead front sight, barrel top is marked "F. Jung & Söhne a Suhl" with the side barrel flats bearing the mark "cannon" and "Tordus" both then inlaid with silver. A fabulous shotgun for the fellow who wants a spectacular hanger over the fireplace or the fellow who wants something a little more ornate for their gun cabinet. Shotgun measures 46.5 inches in length and weighs approximately 8 pounds, includes soft protective gun case. NOTE: No in-house shipping available. CONDITION: Good action; excellent overall cosmetic condition, bore show light oxidation, metal surfaces have aged a pleasing dull gray, barrel has been restored but remains a pleasing deep plum brown, small dings and fine scratches are scattered about walnut stock and barrels; trigger guard, lock and butt plate show very little wear.
